FIRST MARRIAGE
This is the marriage certificate of George Musgrove and his first wife Christiana Musgrove (his cousin). Note George signed the certificate with a cross. George doesn't show his father's name. He is shown as just dead. Christiana's father is Thomas Musgrove, Colourman (artist). The witnesses are George's uncle Henry Cole, and Elizabeth Aitkins who we presume was a friend of Christiana. Their address is shown only as St Pancras. We are uncertain exactly where they were living as they had moved from Whitfield Street in 1868. On the left is a fine contempory engraving of St Pancras Church. A lad right foreground can be seen with a hoop a popular passtime in those days which was actually banned in the Isle of Wight because of the nuisance to pedestrians. St Pancras New Church was built to serve an ancient parish that developed rapidly in Georgian times, constructed in 1819 - 22, it is an example of the Greek Revival style and replaced St Pancras Old Church where his cousin Elizabeth was buried in 1850.
