Above is a contemporary photograph of the main Workhouse building in Croydon Surrey. The Census below taken on March 31st 1901 firstly shows Thomas Langman listed as a 'late licensed victualer,' below are shown two of Thomas and Christiana's sons, Henry Westlake Langman and John Langman aged 12 and 7 respectively. These two children are listed as being with a foster mother and are classified as paupers at the union workhouse. Their place of birth is shown as 'N K' meaning Not known. The whereabouts of Thomas's wife Christiana we have not been able to trace
