........Wake Street formerly King Street Lambeth
The map below (left) dates from 1799 and shows King Street off Lambeth Walk. The Street had been renamed around 1900 to Wake Street and is shown on the 1914 map below (right)

The photograph above dates from 1938 and shows the view down Wake street from the junction with Lambeth Walk. The photograph below was also taken in Wake Street during the VE Day celebrations in 1945. The street no longer exists as the entire area has been redeveloped.

Click map below for larger area image. This shows the area from the Thames,by Lambeth Palace and St Mary's Church eastwards to beyond Lambeth Walk and sothwards to the Lambeth Workhouse in Princes Road. This map is really ineresting as it shows this part of Lambeth before development.
