Alfred
Harris was killed in the first World War (see Adelaide). At the end of
the war his wife Adelaide Harris (Musgrove) now a widow with two children
Herbert and Ruby lived in rooms over a shop owned by Alfred's father
Lambert. The original photo on the left Lambert's son Lambert Thomas
Harris with his mother Alice (formerly Bristow) and a maid in front of
his shop around 1918. Adelaide
lived
in the
rooms
above the shop marked 239 but shortly moved to rooms above 245 which
was Lambert William Harris's second shop. A recent photo shows the shop
still there although it looks like the front
has
been
rebuilt
using
the
original
windows,
the
shop
on the
right looks unchanged. The two photos below shows little change but definite
deterioration. However the red fronted shop below left a similar shop
three doors along shows virtually no change even the sign writing is
the same as on Lambert's shop note the number 233 and the number 239
on Lambert's shop are identical also notice the good quality brickwork
especially the belling out at the top of the building. This nearby shop
has remained unscathed in the 86 years since Adelaide's family lived
there. These details can be seen much clearer by clicking on the pictures
